Michael Gay’s journey to becoming and being a Private Chef has been far from dull. It all began in South Africa where he pursued his passion for food in the ‘food and wine capital’ of Cape Town, studying at the renowned Silwood Kitchen.
Born with a natural talent with food, upon completion of his training Michael was selected to work with and for some of South Africa’s top Chefs, including Topsi Venter, Rueben Riffel (one of the judges on South Africa’s Masterchef) and Matthew Gordon. He then went on to experience a true career highlight of appearing in two different food-related TV programs in SA, namely BBC Africa Food and Roer (Afrikaans for “Stir”). Michael enjoys challenging himself and moved from Cape Town to Durban to expand his culinary experience, and it is here he worked in the food studio of a coastal hotel. From Durban, Michael and his wife relocated to Johannesburg where he was appointed as Private Chef for a well-known Johannesburg businessman and his family. The opportunity arose to move to Australia and like everything he took it with both hands and Perth is now where he calls home. |
Chef de Home made our family Christmas gathering a very memorable event. Right from our initial enquiry, we were so well looked after. Naomi was friendly and efficient setting it all up. Chef Michael prepared the most delicious food and waitress Anna was so courteous and attentive. Michael and Anna were a pleasure to have in our home and, after all their hard work, left the kitchen spotless! We wouldn't hesitate using Chef de Home again and will tell our friends who want to celebrate a special occasion at home that this is definitely the way to go! Sit back and be totally spoilt!

The dinner on Thursday night was the perfect way to start our reunion weekend. The food was delicious and the service was flawless. Most importantly, my kitchen was left in an immaculate state!
